How To Use VLC To Capture A Still Image From Video

For Windows and Mac

Tested on VLC version 3.0.8

  1. Open video
  2. Move to the frame you want to capture
  3. You can advance one frame at a time using the “e” key
  4. From the Video menu, select Take Snapshot, or use the keyboard shortcut Shift-s.
  5. The snapshot (still frame) will be automatically saved to the Downloads folder with nomenclature “vlcsnap-00001.jpg” in sequence.
